Markus Linder, born in Balsthal (Switzerland), was first taught how to play the alphorn by his father, Paul Linder. He then also learned playing the tenor horn and has been a soloist in different brass bands. 1992 he was the first in Switzerland to receive the teaching diploma for the tenor horn.

He graduated as wind music conductor from the Lucerne University of Arts, conducted different formations and directed the wind orchestra Bern-Bümpliz. Focused on supporting young people, he has conducted the cadets music Burgdorf and has been performing for over 12 years with his family (Furioso Romantica).

Besides being a teacher at several musical schools, Markus Linder increasingly devoted himself to his passion for the alphorn in the past 15 years. Accompanied by an orchestra, organ or piano, concert tours lead him abroad to Columbia, Poland, Bulgaria, Norway, Ireland and Germany. Moreover, he was course instructor at the “Schönrieder Alphornwochen” and the “Bregenzer Alphorn-Seminar”. Currently he also teaches his own courses for beginners and advanced alphorn players.

In 1997 he was invited to perform with the Bündner Kammerorchester as soloist for a tour. From 1999 to 2001 he annually performed 10 concerts in Poland with the polish organist Robert Grudzien.

He also performed at the Kultur- und Kongresshaus Luzern KKL with the orchestra of the Academia Engadinaisa, played three concerts with the Winterthurer Synphonikern and several performances at the world exhibition 2000 in Hannover. For many years Markus Linder participated at the Schönrieder Alphorntagen and the Bregenzer Alphornseminar as teacher. He is founder, president and board member of the ALPHORN IN CONCERT association.
